Deumayen Wines

Trez Malbec Reserve 2007 is a “crianza” wine made by Bodegas Deumayen in Alto Agrelo, Mendoza. It was rated by the well known US wine critic, Robert Parker, with 92 points out of a 100, which qualifies as an “Outstanding Wine”.

According to the ratings published at the end of August in www.erobertparker.com, out of 339 Argentine wines from the 2007 vintage, only 12% got 92 points or more and in this group, Trez Malbec was among the first 15.

According to this site, this wine will gain more and fully develop in two to three years. It can be cellared for more than 10 years.

The wine making was entrusted to Pablo Cúneo and Federico Sánchez, with prestigious wine-making consultant Roberto de la Mota, also involved.

The TREZ vineyards are located in Alto Agrelo, 1,100 meters above sea level, on a privileged ‘terroir’, where there is a fresh and dry climate and the Malbec grapes reach maturity with little encouragement.

Harvested in late march, the grapes were shipped to the winery in 18kg boxes. After careful manual selection, the grapes were placed in 100 and 200 hectolitre stainless steel tanks for a maceration of 21 days.

Following malolactic fermentation the wine is moved to new and ‘once used’ French oak casks for 12 to 14 months ageing.

WINE TASTING NOTES

Colour: Intense deep red colour, with a violet tint.

Aromas: Ripe and fruity with concentrated notes of black cherry, sour cherry, plums and liquorice. The vanilla, caramel and toast from the oak also emerge creating a complex wine with outstanding violet floral notes.

Taste: The aroma follows through to a full, powerful body full of ripe flavours backed up by good structure. Despite its concentrated, fruity character this is a soft wine with round tannins, and a complex and lingering after taste. It will gain more complexity when aged and can be cellared for more than 10 years.
